Madam Speaker, the Honorable Nancy Pelosi

Re: The Oppression Toward Vietnamese Democracy Movement

CC: Dr. Phan Van Song, Chairman; Dr. Mai Thanh Truyet, First Vice Chairman; Mr. Hoa The Nha, Second Vice Chairman; Mr. Truong Viet Hoang, President

On behalf of the Dai Viet Human Rights Committee, I wish to take the opportunity of the June 22 visit to the U.S of the Communist Vietnam President Nguyen Minh Triet as well as of his meeting with you to respectfully raise our concern regarding the Communist government’s oppression toward Vietnamese Democracy Movement.

After Vietnam’s admittance into the WTO, its attainment of PNTR status and its removal from CPC list, the Communist regime immediately launched a massive crackdown on the participants of the peaceful, non-violent movement calling for more freedom and basic human rights. Because of this governmental terror campaign to silence all the dissenting voices, numerous people have been wrongly arrested or sentenced to indefinite prison terms. It is obvious the communist government is determined to maintain its totalitarian regime.

Dai Viet has been contributing to the fight for freedom and democracy for last 65 years, and is currently standing side by side with other pro-democracy parties and Vietnamese people to peacefully achieve their ultimate goals for Viet Nam.

On behalf of the Vietnamese People, may I earnestly request you, Madam Speaker, to officially demand Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to renounce all oppressive tactics and to respect human rights by releasing all dissidents, religious and political prisoners?

Please be aware that your attention to this notable cause is gratefully appreciated.

  Sincerely yours,

Duoc Le

Member of Dai Viet Human Rights Committee
